The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon has teamed up with the Trafford Sport and Physical Activity Partnership Council to help budding sports stars 'go the Xtra Mile', by launching a grant fund named 'The Xtra Mile Events - Trafford Athlete Fund'.

The new initiative is funded by the success of the 2015 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon and allows individuals to bid to receive funding to help them develop, reach their potential and support their sporting careers.

The scheme provides three levels of funding: Gold, Silver and Bronze. It is open to promising and talented young people aged 18 years and under, who live in Trafford.

The opportunity to apply is open now until 18 January 2016.

Grants will be awarded to allow young sportsmen and women to fund something to help them progress, which they may not otherwise have been able to access. This could be attending specialist training sessions, paying for coaching or other relevant support.

All applications will be considered by a panel which will score them against the following criteria:
* Current performance standard
* Evidence of progression in performance over the last 12 months
* Intended use of funding and how this will contribute to performance
* Commitment and desire to achieve

Further details on the fund, and the application form, are available at www.traffordpartnership.org/sport.
