Broadcaster and running enthusiast Vassos Alexander has been revealed as the official ambassador of the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon.
His role as ambassador will involve spearheading the #DONTSTOPMENOW campaign. As part of this, entrants are urged to post a video of themselves explaining their inspiration for taking part in this year’s marathon. After this, Vassos will hand pick 10 people to join him for the complete VIP package and run with him as a member of Team Vassos, at the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon.
All runners need a reason to run and we all have our own reason. It can be as simple as wanting to tire your dog out, or because it’s the weekend or just because you can! There is no right or wrong reason and it might not be the same each time, but there is always a reason.
Runners come in many different ages and sizes. Some are fast. Others are slow. It really doesn’t matter. Once thing is for certain though, it is something that only you can decide to do, which is why it is so much more satisfying when you reach your goal, whatever that may be.
The team of ten will enjoy a ‘VIP’ experience of the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon including:
- state-of-the-art ASICS athletics wear
- a chance to meet and train with Vassos
- Photos and interviews on race day
Entrants who sign up to take part in the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon before 31 December are eligible to become one of the ten lucky people to join Team Vassos. Early birds who have already signed up are also eligible.
The name of the campaign is inspired by Vassos’ memoir “Don’t Stop Me Now: 26.2 Tales of a Runner’s Obsession” (Bloomsbury). The book chronicles his transformation into runner of marathons and ultra-marathons and the joys of running.
“I am thrilled to be involved with this year’s ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon and I am looking forward to meeting Team Vassos. Running has been a pleasure and an act of self-discovery for me and I can’t wait to see some of the inspirational stories of those who will be participating in the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon.” - Vassos Alexander
